The Energy Economics Group (EEG) is within the Institute of Power Systems and Energy Economics at Vienna University of Technology. The core areas of research of EEG are:

• Dissemination and integration strategies for renewable and new energy systems
• Competition in energy markets (liberalisation vs. regulation)
• Energy modelling, forecasting and analysis of energy policy strategies
• Global and local environmental aspects
• Sustainable energy systems and climate change

EEG has managed and carried out many international as well as national research projects funded by the European Commission, national governments, public and private clients especially focusing on renewable and new energy systems and related policy instruments. The institute is in close cooperation with the Austrian authorities responsible for energy policies (e.g. Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, Federal Ministry of Economics and Labour, Federal Ministry of Transport, Innovation and Technology as well as regional and local authorities) and has carried out a large number of consulting projects regarding the optimum design of energy policy instruments for these organisations. These contacts guarantee an optimum integration of relevant stakeholders in the dissemination process of this project.

EEG employs a permanent scientific staff of 20 people. The expertise of the staff members of the EEG ranges across all disciplines necessary to analyse the topics investigated in this proposed project. A selection of projects is given in the next chapter.

EEG has been coordinating several EU-projects in the topical area of renewable energy and related economic analyses (e.g. « Green-X »,
« GreenNet », « Invert », « GreenNet-EU27 » - see below for further information) and has been contributing to many other research projects on European level (also tenders) as a core partner in the field of renewable energy with its keen expertise in the area of energy modelling and energy policy strategies (e.g. « FORRES 2020 », « OPTRES »).
