
Lithuanian Energy Institute. In 1992 the
Lithuanian Energy Institute acquired the new status reflecting
the basic ideas of the Science and Studies Law of Lithuania.
The last eight-year brought important changes to the Institute
as during this period activities were maximally concentrated
on meeting Lithuanian needs in all research directions.
In the last years scientific activities in the Institute
were carried out according to five main research directions
approved and financed by the Government of Lithuania:
• Development of energy economy planning methods,
investigation of safety and reliability of the energy technologies,
their impact on the environment, efficient energy consumption
and the renewable energy sources.
• Investigation in fields of thermal systems, development
of their control methods and technologies.
• Simulation of complex systems, development of their
control methods and technologies.
• Investigation of energy systems’ construction
elements aging and development of new multifunctioned materials.
• Investigation of combustion and plasmic processes
in the field of fuel saving, reduction of environment pollution
and thermal decontamination of materials.
In January 2006 the number of staff was 307, including 16
Habilitated Doctors, 70 Ph. Doctors. Lithuanian Energy Institute
was the leader in preparation of:
1) the renewed National Energy Strategies (they were approved
by Parliament in 1999 and 2002)
2) Action Plan for the Energy Sector up to 2005 to implement
the National Energy Strategy
3) National Energy Efficiency Programmes (in 1992, 1996
and 2000) and other studies related to comprehensive analysis
of the energy sector development.
The Lithuanian Energy Institute is the main consulting body
for Ministry of economy, Ministry of environment, Energy
Agency, District heating association, Power company, Gas
company and others.
