
The
Flemish Institution for Technological Research, is the largest
technological research centre in the Flanders region of
Belgium. VITO incorporates seven expertise centres including
“Energy Technology” and “Integral Environmental
studies” with a total of around 500 employees.
It has a large reputation concerning RES technologies and
governmental studies on renewable energy. It is the institution
in Belgium to turn to for data collection and data analysis
on the field of renewable energy. As it is renowned for
its knowledge and experience it has a strong bond both with
governmental institutions as with industrial partners. It
is involved in several European networks for research and
information dissemination (OPET, IEA…).
VITO has been taking part in a number of European projects.
It has a strong drive for international cooperation and
has proven a reliable partner. Amongst others it plays an
active role in the Biomass Partnerships project (EIE/095/S07.38583).
Within this project focused on renewable heating, best practice
examples are gathered and a best practice brochure will
be printed. VITO is coordinator and active participant in
the Clean Technologies for Industries and Transport project
within the Asia Pro Eco Program. It will collect and analyse
data concerning biomass availability in Asean and provide
an overview of novel renewable technologies for industries
and transport in Asean.
The Energy Technology Centre of Expertise is ISO 9001:2000
certified.
