CAMBODIA: Kampong Thom - Results
Detailed studies of the selected zones
The objective of this task is to collect precise data, describing the local context of each selected village.
In a first place, village databases have been fulfilled in the 23 villages. These databases describe:
- The demographical context;
- The geographical context (map of the villages, types of houses, etc.);
- The socio-demographic context (education and health infrastructures; description of the social cohesion);
- The economical context (socio-professional repartition of the population, agriculture, market, period of economic difficulties);
- The energy context (past experiences and electrification projects), including the assessment of the biomass potential available in the village (agricultural residues and land availability for growing energy crops);
- An inventory of non-domestic users (social and community infrastructures, economic activities generating income) has also been achieved in the frame of the study

Further to the completion of the village database, the priority villages have been scored basing on the following criteria:
• Accessibility,
• Economical dynamism: presence of activities generating income,
of markets, etc.
• Social dynamism: presence of associations, development projects, etc.
• Good context: access to water, health care, education,
The 27 priority villages have been organized into a hierarchical order, according to their more or less favorable context for a sustainable development of an electrification project.
The second phase of the study consists in surveying a sample of users (domestic and non domestic users) to analyze the energy demand patterns in the selected villages, through the following aspects:
- traditional energy uses,
- energy demand,
- monthly budget allocated to energy expenses, that can be substituted by electricity,
- ability and willingness to pay electricity.
This study has been finalized and the results are presented here.
